Awards recognise service excellence
3 November 2008, News release from Ashbrook Simon-Hartley Ltd
At the Anglian Water Business Excellence Awards 2008 Ashbrook Simon-Hartley won the 'supplier contribution to service excellence' award.
Former England rugby international Kyran Bracken MBE presented the trophy to Ashbrook Simon-Hartley's aftersales team at the awards ceremony which took place in October at the Imperial War Museum Duxford. The awards are held annually to recognise excellence both within the company and from external suppliers. Runners-up also acknowledged at this year's event for their service contribution were Siemens and ITT Flygt.
Ashbrook's nomination was originally put forward to the judging panel by Anglian Water's Nigel Martin and John Usher based on the results of their 2005 to 2007 framework agreement for maintenance of gravity belt thickeners and belt filter presses. This requires the supplier to maintain all makes of equipment, accurately forecast maintenance costs and hit targets for cost-saving and machine availability.
In the announcement of the awards Ashbrook's PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance) programme was described as 'uniquely pro-active' and was said to have achieved a 40%+ reduction in maintenance spend. After the ceremony Ashbrook's aftersales manager Ian Horton said the success and benefits of the PPM programme had become visible on every site with the rise of overall machine availability hitting 99% and explained how they approach this type of long-term maintenance contract:
"At the outset all sites are surveyed and initial site-specific remedial works undertaken to bring them up to the same standard. Twice-yearly site inspections follow involving replacement of consumable items on all units which enables us to pre-empt breakdowns and extend asset life. We spend time with the client and operators too as their feedback's vital to keep the process running at peak performance."
Anglian Water's framework agreement with Ashbrook Simon-Hartley was initially set up in 1999 and has been renewed on an on-going basis since. On the strength of the results recognised by this October's Business Excellence award it has just been renewed for a further two-year period.
