An Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) meter is a meter which can be read remotely rather than needing to inspect the meter each time. This means more reliable and accurate billing based on actual meter reads rather than estimates.
There are two types of AMR (Automated Meter Readers):
Index read: Units are typically deployed on metered supplies using less than 5,000 m3 per year. This 'basic' type of AMR enables United Utilities to read meters remotely without the need to enter the customer's premises or lift meter lids.
Data logger: Units are typically deployed on 'large user' metered supplies using more than 5,000 m3 per year. Data loggers provide readings every 15 minutes, and allow customers to monitor their water usage more closely. Data is downloaded to a web portal every day, where customers can access, download and analyse it. The technology also allows us to set alarm parameters so that customers can be alerted by email or text should their water consumption rise or fall significantly.
Customers can see how much water their site uses and when with a flow and consumption profile
Allows customers to actively manage their water and identify unexpected issues such as leaks
Loggers can be fitted both on the main meter and also on sub-meters, to monitor and identify issues on large complex sites
It can support water efficiency objectives, by helping to identify potential areas for savings
Helps to monitor and demonstrate the impact of any water saving initiatives implemented.
Includes dashboards, reporting, analysis and benchmarking, so customers can get on with running their business.
Customers most likely to benefit:
Multi-site operators such as local authorities, high street retailers
Large complex sites, such as hospitals, prisons, and universities where sub-metering and data loggers will provide the ability to analyse consumption in different areas of the site
Those who require robust contingency planning with the use of alarm parameters.
