Central wastewater treatment facility at BP's Horst refinery in Gelsenkirchen
In September 2009, Gelsenwasser AG and Hager + Elsasser GmbH signed an agreement for the design, supply, installation, and start-up of a central treatment facility for waste water in BP's Horst plant.
Investment of € 20 million
This project is the result of a partnership between Hager + Elsasser GmbH and Gelsenwasser AG. Hager + Elsasser GmbH will design and build the complete plant by October 2010, and afterwards Gelsenwasser will assume the operation of the central treatment facility for waste water, initially for 15 years, via its 100% subsidiary AWS GmbH.
BP's refineries in Germany are owned by its subsidiary, Ruhr Oel GmbH, which has invested about €20 million in this new facility.
Meets high environmental standards
The selected processes are based on many years of experience at Hager + Elsasser GmbH in the design of wastwater treatment failities for the refinery / petrochemical industry. The plant concept consists of multiple physical pre-purification processes and a completely biological clarification stage. The design also includes a biological and energy-conserving, thermally regenerative exhaust treatment system.
Construction of the clarification plant has started recently. The circular concrete tanks, holding up to 10,000m3, will be finished toward the end of 2009. This extremely fast-track project will see the completion of the entire facility by the end of October 2010.
Solutions for Refineries, Petrochemical and Chemical Industries
Our engineers develop solutions for the various wastewater streams resulting from crude oil and natural gas production and further processing in the petrochemical industry. The chemical, physical and biological processes employed are specifically adapted to individual project requirements and tailored to the needs of our customers.
