Chelsea flower show chooses compostable carriers

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has responded to the challenge of eliminating the use of plastic bags by replacing them at this year's Chelsea Flower Show with eco-friendly fully compostable carriers made with GM-free non-food grade cornstarch.

The 350,000 bags, supplied by a small family-owned company, Ecosac in Shropshire will be distributed to visitors at the Show throughout the 5 day event.

The company already supplies its carriers to the RHS Shops in Surrey and Yorkshire, where they are proving a great hit with the public and this latest development is a further demonstration of the Society's commitment to the reduction of waste and recycling.

Frazer Walker, Ecosac Director said "In the 5 years of our company supplying compostable products to organisations large and small, this is an exciting, high-profile venture and a milestone not only for us but for the promotion of environmentally friendly packaging in the UK as a whole"
