Mobile ECS Plant goes to the USA

The range of Magnetic Separation solutions available on the market today is continuing to expand year upon year in order to meet the demands of developing industries, and Master Magnets was recently called upon to assist with a particularly unique project in the USA involving a mobile Eddy Current Separation plant.
Mobile plants systems are of course, very common in the recycling industry today. However, unlike many mobile plant systems that are simply fitted with wheels, the separation plant required in the US was to be installed onto a flat-bed truck and incorporated into a complete ferrous and nonferrous metals recovery plant.
The original enquiry was passed on to Master Magnets from one of their longest serving partners, the Magnetics Division of Global Equipment Mktg Inc. The Master Magnets Agent for North America visited the customer, American Steel Processing Co., to discuss a new bottom ash processing application, which they were looking into in order to promote recycling on behalf of one of America's largest waste management companies. The vast area of the customer's site meant that a mobile separation system was needed to enable them to process material wherever this may be required.
The ash was the product of incinerated municipal waste, which at the time was being processed in order to remove any ferrous metals, prior to being sent to landfill. Unfortunately, the remaining materials being landfilled still contained around 0.10% of valuable non-ferrous metals. It was estimated that the company was processing around 500 tonnes per day of waste, resulting in huge potential losses of valuable non-ferrous metals.
With the customer being very keen to proceed with this project, Master Magnets began to research the feasibility of installing the ECS system onto a flat-bed truck and calculated the throughput capacities of the ECS units, which could be utilised in this setup. Quotations for the most cost-effective and suitable solutions were sent onto the customer and shortly after an order was placed for a 1,250mm wide ECS unit as well as an Overband Magnet that would be installed prior to the ECS, as final protection from ferrous contaminants.
American Steel Processing Co. had provided the conceptual design to incorporate a complete ferrous and non-ferrous recovery plant into a mobile configuration. With the Eddy Current Separator being incorporated into a complete plant, the project involved coordination with the U.S. engineers that would eventually provide assistance with the assembly of the ECS onto the flat-bed truck. The CAD engineers at Master Magnets created the final design for the custom made system and once the plant had been manufactured and assembled into the mobile configuration, a Master Magnets engineer was sent to commission the system when it arrived on site.
With over 20 years of experience in the magnetics industry, the Master Magnets installation engineer worked closely with the on-site operators to assist with the initial set up of the system and to ensure that the process was configured to achieve optimum separation performance. The mobile ECS plant is now in full operation and is providing a great return on investment having helped to significantly increase the customer's revenue.
