Atkins offers an integrated approach to water, waste & environmental solutions. A client-focused structure enables us to augment and support cost-effective, quality-assured solutions and project delivery.
An Atkins team is helping The Environment Agency develop a new self assessment tool which will not only save UK businesses up to £3 billion per year, but also have environmental benefits.
Aimed at all organisations in England and Wales, the tool will measure and benchmark performance in managing physical resources wisely. Focusing on raw materials, water, energy, waste, packaging and transportation, it is likely to be launched on the Environment Agency's website in late 2007. The tool will be a high profile vehicle for encouraging organisations to reduce resource use.
The Atkins team drew on their expertise in resource management and in the development of decision support tools to devise a questionnaire which generates a score and a feedback report.
Ben Glatt, Policy Advisor, Environment Agency states: "Reducing the use of physical resources is a major challenge for all parts of our economy, and we believe that simple self-assessment will move many businesses in the right direction. We are very pleased to be leading this innovative and exciting project."
The tool was developed with inputs from 45 businesses and several experts within the Environment Agency and was successfully road tested across a range of manufacturing and service sectors.
