Sludge and Biosolids treatment - Waste to Energy
We can achieve optimum sludge volume reduction and maximise the potential energy recovery using the Eolia software. Technology includes gravity belt thickeners, belt press, thermal hydrolysis, Anaerobic Digestion, incineration, wet oxidation, liquid sludge chemical stabilisation and pasteurisation and odour treatment.
BIOTHELYS® - Reducing sludge production by up to 80%
BIOTHELYS® combines thermal hydrolysis (THELYS® process) with downstream biological treatment, and can, therefore, treat all types of sludge, whether industrial or municipal. Click here for more information.
BIOTHELYS® fits perfectly into the wastewater treatment plant and offers the following advantages:
Sludge removal cost control, by reducing dramatically the produced sludge quantity by up to 80%
Significant digester volume reduction, allowed by the treated sludge characteristics
Biogas production maximization, due to high volatile solids removal
Easier land applications, due to hygienised, stabilized and odourless sludge high quality. Click for more information
More and more emphasis is being placed on low operational costs, small footprint, energy from waste and low sludge production. Anaerobic digestion is a solution
What is Anaerobic Digestion?
Anaerobic micro-organisms (specific to oxygen free conditions) are selected for their ability to degrade organic matter present in effluents. More precisely, organic pollutants are converted into biogas (methane) and a small amount of biosolids.
The energy rich biogas can then be used in the plant process (for boiler-feed and in generators) to produce "green" electricity and heat.
A combined heat and power (CHP) engine is used to convert the biogas into electricity and heat.
Anaerobic biological processes can be used to treat industrial wastewaters (food and beverage, pulp and paper, and chemical industries) or to stabilize organic sludge.
The benefits and technical features
· Minimal sludge production
· Limited energy consumption
· Organic contaminants transformed into "Green energy" (Biogas)
· Efficient removal of organic matter (up to 90%)
· Low nutrient needs
· Biogas production
· Supported by government legislation

A tool to help decide on the best option for wastewater and sludge treatment systems.
Eolia is a user-friendly, modular tool that simulates the energy consumed and produced by wastewater systems, as well as the greenhouse gases (GHGs) emitted.
It helps in decision-making and enables optimal choices to be made regarding a major environmental impact: the effect of the chosen treatment processes on global warming.
· Eolia assesses and compares the energy and GHG balance of the treatment processes being considered.
· Eolia identifies the levers for improvement within the system. Click here to find out more
