Polypipe's New Ridgidrain takes sustainability and technology to new heights
17 August 2012, News release from Polypipe Civils
Polypipe, the UK's leading manufacturer of plastic drainage, sewer, water management and cable protection products, has pushed the boundaries in product performance, integrity and sustainability to unprecedented levels with the launch of its New Ridgidrain surface water drainage range.
New Ridgidrain is the result of an extensive 18 month product development and testing programme and is Polypipe's most efficient surface water drainage system to date.
Its optimised pipe profile maximises strength and minimises weight to save precious resource and reduce CO2 consumption in the production, transportation and onsite handling processes. What's more it is up to 94% lighter than concrete, meaning fewer deliveries to site and improved health and safety benefits.
New Ridgidrain offers specifiers a proven structured wall product with reduced virgin plastic content - and no compromise in performance.
The range is available as both plain ended and integrally socketed pipes, in sizes from 100mm to 600mm in diameter, with a full range of fittings.
New Ridgidrain can be used in all civils and infrastructure projects wherever traditional Ridgidrain systems are specified, or rigid materials such as concrete and clay.
Benefits of New Ridgidrain include longer lengths and fewer joints than its clay and concrete counterparts for improved resilience to leakage and root ingress, ability to withstand ground movement and differential settlement, and extremely smooth bore for ease of maintenance.
Jason Shingleton, Marketing and Development Director at Polypipe, comments: "Polypipe's expert teams continuously explore new ways to meet the needs of the construction industry and where performance criteria and standards allow, we always maximise the sustainability of our products by using post consumer plastics in their manufacture. We are delighted to add the New Ridgidrain, with its perfect blend of technology and sustainability, to our long line of innovations and continue to invest heavily in research and new production technology to offer customers products which benefit the environment while meeting all of the performance demands of today's civils and infrastructure projects."
New Ridgidrain is an effective surface water drainage system for non- pressure surface and sub-surface applications including highways, rail and airport infrastructure, agriculture, sports and leisure, schools, commercial and industrial.
As part of Polypipe's ongoing investment in sustainable processing technologies, the company has appointed a full time materials manager to ensure the quality of its raw material and the high standards set by Ridgidrain.
Jason adds: "By listening to the needs of our customers and the industry, together we can push the boundaries in enabling the effective installation and performance of sustainable building technologies."
Polypipe's Ridgidrain pipes have been installed for highway, rail and airport infrastructure projects as a direct alternative to concrete and clayware pipes.
