IWEX Show News - December 2006
8 December 2006, News release from IWEX 2007
The Institution of Water Officers will host its exciting Drilling & Tapping competition at IWEX 2007.
IWO's Drilling & Tapping competition introduces Contractor's Cup at IWEX 2007
The event is a time trial and each team has two contestants with an aim to drill and tap a 150mm diameter ductile iron main under pressure at 70-100 psi, together with the installation of a simulated service connection. Skill, dexterity and speed are a prime requirement, but quality is paramount and time penalty points are added if there are any leaks or infringements of the Rules & Regulations governing the Championship.
The first tapping contest was held at Watertec '89 at the NEC, Birmingham. In each subsequent year as the event has developed, more teams have participated and times have continued to improve. The winners have represented the United Kingdom at the American Water Works Association's Competition in North America each year since 1990. The winners of the 2007 competition will compete in this competition in Atlanta, Georgia in June 2008. 2007 sees the 7th Annual Ladies Drilling & Tapping Competition, which is growing every year in size and support. For the first time IWO will be awarding a Contractor Trophy and a prize for the best new entry!
To enter this exciting competition, please find an application form on www.drillingandtapping.co.uk.
