Olympic Delivery Authority chairman confirmed as speaker at EDF Energy's Talk Power 2012 conference
12 April 2012, News release from EDF Energy
Sir John Armitt, chairman of the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has been confirmed as a keynote speaker at Talk Power 2012, EDF Energy's annual conference for large energy users.
Talk Power 2012, themed 'Powering On: investing for growth and a sustainable future', will take place on April 25th 2012 at the Mermaid Conference Centre in Blackfriars, London. The conference will explore how energy companies and businesses can work together to ensure growth and competiveness in today's challenging economic environment.
Sir John will lead a discussion into how major investment projects such as the Olympic Games lead to investment in new infrastructure, which in the case of London 2012 includes sporting venues, transportation links and housing. He will be offering insight into how such projects benefit the UK economically, from building a legacy of sustainability, to establishing the UK as a major player on the world stage.
Sir John said: "Obviously the ODA's work on the London 2012 Olympic Games has been a significant project, but also a major success story in the context of UK construction, infrastructure and investment. Talk Power is an opportunity to pass on some general learnings in terms of the role of the ODA in delivering the infrastructure of London 2012; as well as to discuss specifically how the ODA is working with the construction industry, delivering the venues and other infrastructure to meet budget and deadlines, which is always a challenge on major projects."
Sir John will take centre stage at the conference alongside host Naga Munchetty - financial journalist and presenter of the BBC's daily World Business Report; Elizabeth Hinde - policy executive at the British Retail Consortium and Aseai Zlaoui - technical systems & energy manager at Harrods.
Sid Cox, B2B Director at EDF Energy, said: "The 2012 London Olympics is a stand out example of how investment in major projects can benefit UK business and Sir John is excellently placed to detail both the achievements and challenges involved in such a project.
"Talk Power 2012 aims to focus on the positive actions that Government, business and the energy sector can take in these challenging economic times for business and Sir John's contribution to this discussion will be invaluable."
