School averts flooding thanks to Lanes

The spate of downpours and wet weather has hit parts of Yorkshire particularly badly. But one school in Barnsley has averted a potential flooding disaster through some timely forward planning and the skill of the UK's largest independent drainage specialist, Lanes for Drains.

Holgate School Sports College had asked Lanes to carry out a check and clear all its surface water drainage system earlier this year. As a result, the drains coped with the excessive storm water without a hitch.

The school's Facilities Manager, Mick Tye, was so impressed with the service that he wrote to thank the Lanes‚ team, saying that Holgate was one of only a few schools in the area not to be flooded, despite a history of being flooded at least once a year.

"It's something we're always trying to emphasise to our clients," says Dave Tattersfield of Lanes. "It's worth planning preventative maintenance through annual or six monthly visits because they include cleaning and jetting of all surface water drainage and foul water systems if necessary.

"Removal of silt and debris keeps the drains running efficiently to avoid flooding - even when there are normal rain levels!" he adds. "Holgate School is living proof that preventative drain maintenance really works".
