Suprion water conditioners contain highly advanced technology resulting from many years of laboratory research, successful field operations and constant experimentation with Ion-Clean the predecessor to Suprion, culminating in a multifunctional range of devices with numerous inherent features and benefits that will effectively prevent the development of calcium, magnesium and silica hard water scale. Slime prevention and rust conversion is also achieved in closed circuit systems. Suprion are environmentally friendly in all aspects of water heating.
Suprion are designed around a "fit & forget" principle with a maintenance free anticipated and proven life of at least 10 years: they are self-energising with no dedicated power source, filters, chemicals or magnets and operating characteristics that do not leach metal ions into solution that is evident with systems having sacrificial anodes. They also reduce the costs of secondary equipment by keeping all surfaces in contact with water free of scale, it is a fact that just 9g of scale in the heat exchanger of a domestic boiler reduces the efficieny of a SEDBUK 'A' band boiler by 5.6% to a SEDBUK 'C' band.
Suprion devices arc unique in that they operate in a voltage potential condition, in other words there is a voltage potential but almost zero current. This feature makes Suprion outstandingly different to all other types of water conditioners, whether they be magnetic, externally applied electrically energized, or other self energizing electric energy units, all of which still produce an appreciable current flow through the water.
The effect of Suprion and its designed voltage only operating condition is most noteworthy in relation to Silica Si precipitation and Si scale. It is a widely accepted fact that although Ca and Mg scale is relatively easy to prevent or dissipate, it is extremely difficult to prevent scale in waler with Si content, and in most cases water conditioners cannot prevent Si scale. All basic Suprion models include a capability to deal with moderate levels of Si scale, but in regions where no Ca or Mg is encountered and Si is dominant, Suprion devices in specific Si mode are available at no extra cost.
Transition from Ion-clean specification to Suprion resulted in a technologically advanced device lhat was so effective; it immediately superseded the Ion-Clean product range forthwith, and took JKI into sectors of water treatment where electrical heating recjuired a scale prevention device that performed to the same high standard that Ion-Clean was capable of achieving in respect of non'electrical applications. Furthermore, the Suprion product was ideally suited to special applications where silica was encountered and found to be difficult 10 disperse or prevent from becoming a scale tree application.
Suprion are technologically advanced scale prevention water conditioners that will prevent the development of calcium, magnesium and silica hard water scale, also rust and slime in a number of water applications, whilst progressively dissipating any scale formations within an existing system. They are entirely self-energising, requiring no power supply, and they are maintenance free with electrodes that are completely isolated from the water flow, resulting in an uninterrupted passage of water through the devices, with no leaching of metal ions.
Although Suprion Technology is new and unique, the basic principles have been employed in the construction of its predecessor Ion-Clean. The research into the design concept of Suprion was time consuming and extended over a decade lo complete, including laboratory experiments, followed by extensive field testing and intelligence gathering from a rapidly expanding market for these quality products; more than 50,000 Ion-clean and Suprion devices are in regular use in Japan and its far eastern neighbours.
The scientist who developed Suprion included in his brief the science of terotechnology, consequently Suprion is a maintenance free device, and has a minimum operational life of 10 years or more. Proof of this fact comes from the Imperial Hotel Group situated in central London where an Ion-Clean device was installed in preference to a water softener, although the directors were mildly sceptical about the device and were referred to their insurers for advice, who offered the Directors one of their qualified engineers to monitor the installation and commissioning of the device and assured the Directors that he would attend the Hotel in i2 monthly intervals to examine the performance of the Ion-Clean device, In the first year no scale developed in the calorifier it was serving for the ongoing protection of 1,700 en-suite rooms. The current situation in the year 2008 is that it has been in service for 15 maintenance free years and is expected to continue in service for 20 years or more.
In the 60's the Duke of Edinburgh addressed a Seminar attended by research, design and development engineers when he described terotechnology as the science of designing maintenance out of a developing product in preference to designing a product with maintenance as an essential feature of the design.
In this context, Suprion is a professionally engineered, relatively high quality plumbing fitting with a number of inherent features and benefits. Suprion are self-energising with no dedicated power source, moving parts or magnets, operator foolproof requiring no maintenance or chemicals, and fully enclosed with non-sacrificial electrodes incorporating unique design characteristics that will continuously generate invigorating "ionised" water, which also gradually dissipates existing accumulated scale deposits, furthermore the devices have an operating life of at least 10 years.
Suprion provides an effective 100% solution to hard water scale problems over a wide range of water applications, and for an extended period of time without servicing or maintenance. The diameter of smallest device is 10 mm and is threaded at both ends and is in the group of threaded devices that include all threaded models that stop at 40 mm diameter. The larger models are flanged and commence with the 50/65mm diameter up to 450 mm- Models above 450mm diameter are available by special request.
How do they work? Suprion employs a unique form of electrolytic action, in a "standard" electrolytic system the water passing through the device functions as the electrolyte in a voltaic cell, contacting at least two electrodes having different electrochemical potentials. Suprion is unique in that there is no contact between the water and the electrodes. An electrostatic field generated by the flow of water through the devices mediates the electrolytic action; optimum field generation is made possible by a specially formed tough, temperature resistant plastic tube through which the water flows.
Friction between the water and the inner surface of the pipe generates an electrostatic charge around the outer surface of the pipe The Suprion electrode assembly is immersed in this Held, which performs essentially the same function 'd& the liquid electrolyte in a standard system. The "positive" electrode element absorbs free electrons from the field, resulting in a high concentration of protons around the field. The "negative" electrode element, on the other hand, releases electrons into the field. The very high potential difference between the electrodes results in a narrowly focused, high density secondary field in the form of an electrostatic "curtain" through which the water must pass.
In solution, calcium, magnesium and other mineral salts are partly ionized and therefore subject to influence by the electromagnetic and electrostatic energy. Suprion's focused secondary electrostatic field causes increased ionization of the soluble content of the water, thereby minimising precipitation and preventing scaling.
