Remote Pump Protection for Heathrow Airport

Pumps used in an important surface water run off system at Heathrow Airport were experiencing premature wear. In addition to this the pumps were using excessive currents possibly indicating blockage and impellor fouling.

Flowline were approached by BAA to provide a solution to the problem. The requirement was to obtain a flow measurement to ensure the pumps are operating at their correct flow rate. A low flow may indicate a problem, so an alarm was to be raised requiring an engineer to investigate the problem and assess if an immediate site visit was required.

In addition to this, the Environment Agency required the flow and total discharge to be monitored and recorded and the lake level to be logger.

Flowline provided a full package solution using a non invasive flowmeter and logging system with alarm messages sent to an Engineer via SMS.

The logger must offer the duty engineer the possibility of remote interrogation via a dial up modem to check on the lake level and flow.
