When flooding occurred earlier this year in West Yorkshire many homes and businesses were affected, with many still not trading coming in to the Autumn and Winter months.
The local council pledged and subsequently awarded grants to businesses to help them through this tough period and to help with things like marketing and the installation of flood protection measures.
One company that suffered from the River Calder flooding was Denroyd Ltd, a Sowerby Bridge based company who manufacture and supply plastic cores for the paper industry throughout the world. Andy Plant, Managing Director at Denroyd contacted several companies to get some initial costings to base his grant application on. From the responses he received and the products he was presented with, he chose the IBS lightweight aluminium barriers as his preferred option and was subsequently successful in gaining part of the funds needed to complete the flood barrier project at his factory.
"After the initial costings had been produced and Denroyd had received confirmation of their grant, we visited site to complete a final measure-up, which we could then produce drawings from for manufacture" said Ray Moulds of IBS Engineered Products, who added "we believe we have the best aluminium flood barrier capability in the UK, which depending on the application, can be used for spans of up to 6000mm without the need for a central post arrangement".
Installation of the barriers was completed on time and to the client's satisfaction, meaning that this small part of the Calder Valley is protected from future flooding of the River Calder.
