KeepCup was chosen by the University of Melbourne for its sustainability credentials and great design, consistent with the University's aim to reduce their environmental impact.

Prior to implementation of KeepCups in December 2010, the University was using almost 163,800 disposable cups per month, equivalent to 1,965,600 cups per year.

KeepCup implementation - University of Melbourne

The University of Melbourne carried out a series of sustainability projects to minimise environmental impact. As an incentive, staff and students who committed to making better sustainable choices received a free KeepCup. This offer is outlined at

The University has provided a substantial number of KeepCups to faculty staff and students, and the KeepCups are also sold at campus bookstores.

The goal for 2012 was installing water fountains throughout campuses so that students and staff can rinse out their KeepCups on the run and refill reusable water bottles.

"The program has proved more successful than anticipated.

Four weeks into the sustainability implementation, 2,122 students and staff have made the commitment to become more sustainable, and the numbers grow every day, we have been overwhelmed by the response in such a short time.

The KeepCups were chosen to encourage the University community to make the commitment to sustainability and making sustainable choices. They were designed and manufactured in Australia, and an easy way for staff and students to make at least one change in their daily activities to be more sustainable."
