Energy Management Company of the Year
18 March 2013, News release from Aurora Australis Ltd
Products and services that will help you measure, manage and reduce your building's energy consumption.
It is with great pleasure that the team at Business and Industry Today presents Aurora Australis with the prestigious and highly sought after 'Company of the Year' Award.
We all know, especially in today's recession that times are hard, and setting up a new company is even harder. But one company in particular has made that step look easy - that company is Aurora Australis.
Speaking with Reinhold Wieland of Aurora Australis, we discovered what the first months has held for the company, how they have coped in such a vigorous and combative economy and what the future months hold.
"Firstly, I would like to say how pleased we are and how good we feel about winning such a prestigious award. As a relatively new company, with only six months under our belts, it's excellent to receive such great plaudits and recognition in such a short space of time.
"From day one, we have seen our company as an expanding international business rather than as a start-up. The first few months have been extremely busy with setting up and establishing the company, but most of the time has been spent on business development, which has seen us attend a couple of exhibitions to visit potential clients and testing the waters with our products and services.
"Throughout the economic downturn, business has been very cautious, especially when it comes to spending money. This also applies to the energy efficiency market as there are significant barriers in the sector. The interesting part is that the money for small and large energy efficiency projects is already in the operational budget of a business - by paying for the utility bill - but in many cases paying for wasted energy locks up the funds.
"It is a case of throwing good money at something bad, month after month. Our services are designed to break that cycle, reduce energy consumption considerably (anything from 20% plus) and make all the improvements self-funding. Energy efficiency projects can provide a return of investment of anything between 20% and 100%, but also future-proof your buildings and business from ever increasing energy prices.
"Our main offering is our own Real Time Energy Management System together with energy sub- metering (electricity, gas, water, thermal) plus a range of technologies designed to reduce the energy consumption of buildings. We can also provide a savings guarantee. However, we are also partners with a Birmingham Engineering company where we have the capabilities to offer an energy efficient package for heating zoning controls which is using our Optergy Real Time Energy Management System for web access, remote commissioning and remote water balancing.
"We see a lot in the pipeline although sales are currently lagging. We don't particularly see this as a negative as this is the nature of the energy efficiency business. It is a consultative business and it can take anything from several months to a couple of years from the first meeting to final approval.
"We don't intend for this to hinder our progression, and our short term plans are to make ourselves known in the industry and look at opportunities for our Real Time Energy Management System and sub-metering to really take off. These include the acquisition and forming technology partnerships with specialised sub-contractors and consultants.
"In addition, our long-term plans are to establish a good number of reliable channel partners in the UK and Europe."
Aurora Australis' origins are in Australia in which the group holding company is one of the largest energy management building automation companies in the country with offices across the length and breadth of the country as well as offices in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Aurora Australis provides comprehensive mixed mode energy solutions with expertise in building automated and sophisticated control systems for commercial offices, universities, hospitals, data centres, numerous specialist facilities and ESCO type services. Operating in both the commercial and educational sectors, Aurora Australis' products ensure performance guarantee and independent verification of energy savings.
Through the ESCO division of the business, Aurora has recently formed technical partnerships with approximately 30 businesses in specialised services. This has enabled them to now provide independent measurement and verification of savings, energy advice and consultancy, lighting and lighting controls, BMS upgrades and fine-tuning, HVAC upgrades, voltage and power optimisation, compressed air audits and repairs, infrared, thermographic surveys and energy procurement services.
The Aurora Australis group also includes a high-tech product development business, Optergy Ltd which is also based in Australia. Optergy develops and distributes the Optergy Platform; the most advanced web-based real-time energy management system for large buildings, facilities and distributed enterprises.
The Optergy Platform management tool is leading the way in the measurement and reporting of energy consumption with a full suite of advanced tools to measure, manage, report and reduce energy usage. Optergy can be integrated with all building's meters (water, electricity and gas) and other building systems such as the BMS and lighting to collect select raw data.
This data is then presented in a series of reports via a user-friendly web interface that provides real-time measurements tailored to clients' needs, in which reports can then be accessed anywhere, anytime.
The range Optergy systems are also extremely versatile and can be operated by a range of users including facilities manager, building owners, environmental managers, finance managers, maintenance staff, commercial tenants, planners and designers, in a variety of environments such as commercial office buildings, retail stores and shopping centres, hotels, hospitals, educational institutions, data centres and government buildings.
