Amesbury: BS 8552:2012 compliance has never been so easy
The Lovibond® team has recently enhanced the testing methods to enable compliance to the new British Standard 8552:2012 which provides guidelines for the sampling of water for closed-circuit heating and cooling systems.
An important part of this new standard not only recommends the design of the sampling programme and frequency of the sampling but also, importantly, provides advice on which analytical parameters are appropriate from commissioning through to discharge. Furthermore, Annex D summarizes the minimum requirements for on-site analysis using test kits and portable instruments.
As leading suppliers of test equipment for the industrial and environmental market places, the Lovibond® team was approached to advise on how best to adhere to the new guidelines on sulphate testing. The water should be tested for sulphate throughout the life cycle of the system; before filling (source water), after pre-commission cleaning, between pre-commission cleaning and thereafter during routine operation and pre-discharge.
Testing for Sulphate in itself is not new. However, the new guidelines stipulate that any procedure used should have a lower detection limit of 10mg/l (as SO4).
The Lovibond® team has responded to customer demand by offering a testing method to meet this lower detection limit. Full compliance to BS8552:2012, Annex D is possible by choosing from the wide range of Lovibond® products available. From ammonia to sulphate, tests conform to Section 6.3.8, including a comprehensive set of instructions, material safety data sheets and use-by date for consumables.
