WPL Biological Wastewater Treatment Units
WPLs biological treatment solutions can be used either to undertake full biological treatment or to complement existing process units
The WPL Aerated Filter (Fixed Film SAF) can be used to either undertake full biological treatment or to complement existing process units in aerated fixed-film, anoxic fixed-film or aerated fluidised bed design options.
The process designs are utilised for the following applications:
· For settled liquor from septic tanks and primary settlement tanks
· Carbonaceous and nitrifying applications
· For polishing liquor from existing biological treatment units where carbonaceous BOD has been partially reduced, but where further BOD and nitrification are required to meet consent standards.

The WPL AN-SAF (Total N treatment) has been developed for applications that require Total N treatment. The process includes for anoxic zones which are NOT aerated continuously but are periodically scoured via timed/automated control. The Anoxic filter stage is filled with a media which has an optimum specific surface area to prevent potential excessive build-up of biomass.
Pre and post anoxic treatment is possible, in combination with the standard aerated process:
Pre-anoxic: Recirculation between aerobic and anoxic sections is possible, either with integral pumps only
Post-anoxic: Methanol dosing equipment available to meet stricter consents
WPL Nitrifying-SAF Ammonia treatment plant is tried and proven technology for applications where the Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) has been completely removed (below 20 mg/laverage), but effluent is required to be fully nitrified, and further biological capacity is required for this application.
Manufactured from a combination of GRP and (galvanised steel or stainless) steel (Hybrid SAF), GRP or steel, WPL SAF units can be installed below or above ground, with full access to all parts of the unit. All mechanical and electrical equipment is located in a separate, dedicated enclosure for easy maintenance.
Permanent or Temporary Applications
The units are suitable for permanent or temporary applications, with a number of different hire and purchase options to suit your requirements.
WPL Miranda RBC Biological treatment for small to large wastewater treatment work sites providing carbonaceous Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) removal and full nitrification can be achieved for a wide PE of 250 upwards.
The WPL Miranda RBC can be used for biological treatment as part of an integrated system; an adaptable wastewater treatment package and in addition to phosphorous and other chemical dosing processes.
The system can be part of a permanent installation or can be hired where temporary treatment is required.

WPL N-SAF Case Study: WPL Provides Their Largest Treatment Plant for Yorkshire Water
WPL were challenged with the task to design and manufacture the largest bespoke modular steel wastewater process solution (N-SAF) the company have ever supplied. The unit had to handle 50 l/sec FFT, almost twice the average, so something out of the ordinary was devised. The 11.7m length, 4.6m tall and 2.9m wide N-SAF unit was built off-site prior to being transported to Danesmoor WwTW; a process being favoured for lowering health and safety risks on-site.
