Haigh, the UK manufacturers of wastewater inlet systems, recently launched the new Series 2 ACE inlet at the National Screening evaluation test facility at Chester-le-Street after two years of development.
With the help of Northumbrian Water the STW test facility was used as an
exhibition area for Haigh equipment and the ACE Bandscreener from the new
inlet was shown working. Following installation during August the screen
successfully worked at up to 150 lps and with a proven screenings capture
rate of 79%. A select group of water industry professionals were invited to attend a presentation on the Inlet and a demonstration of the screen and how the inlet works. The unique features of the inlet include grit collection before the screen, no external wash water requirement and prefabricated construction for easy and simple installation.
The entire new inlet is designed to be delivered on the back of a lorry and only requires a basic concrete plinth for installation, so avoiding expensive and time consuming civil work. Major advances include the removal of grit prior to the screen to avoid excessive wear and the use of a deluge water system utilising the existing flow for the wash water. Low maintenance due to reduced grit wear and individual access to screen plates without having to remove the entire screen from the flow.
