Liquid petroleum gas: the way to go...
It has been established that liquid petrolium gas (LPG) does not contribute to global warming in any capacity. This characteristic of being environmentally-friendly sets it apart from other carbon base fuels.
LPG refers to a mixture of gaseous hydrocarbons that have been produced from natural gas as well as oil extracts. As the world shifts towards the option for a renewable energy resource, LPG has placed itself as a carbon foot print for a number of reasons. A carbon footprint refers to the total of the emissions of the greenhouse gas that are produced by either a product or a service. This will be used as a determination for the contribution of that product or service to global warming.
The most profound of LPG'S characteristics include:
- LPG has a comparatively lower ratio of carbon to hydrogen when compared to other hydrocarbons. What this means that a gas bottle of LPG when used produces a considerably lower amount of the carbon dioxide gas in comparison to the heat that has been produced.
- LPG has been found to have a higher degree of heating value as compared to other hydrocarbons. This means that there is a higher energy output for every kilogram of LPG as compared to other energy sources.
- LPG has been assigned a global warming potential of zero by the United Nations International Panel on Climate Change. With the ever increasing threat of global warming and the need for maintaining the environment, this has proven to be a viable option that strikes a balance between energy production and environmental protection.
A quick analysis within the five major regions in which LPG is used across the world indicates that it is a fuel that produces very low amounts of carbon. These categories include in its usage in the automotive industry, for cooking purposes, for general heating and for the production of power.
A gas bottle refill would also indicate similar lower carbon levels in relation to other fuels. While the road transport across Europe has been established to contribute to seventeen percent of the greenhouse gas emissions, LPG has the least carbon emission level.
Research on carbon footprints within the European region compares the electricity basis for western and Eastern Europe. The findings indicate that for the same quantity, the cooking by natural gas is marginally lower than that for LPG across the region. The efficiency of LPG is, however, considerably higher than the rest of the fuels that were analyzed.
Further to the above, in comparison to coal, LPG'S footprint is lower. This is further classified based on the water heating system that is in use. This is because there is a difference in the levels for the case of the combination systems that make use of the heat space and water on the one hand, and those that have a separate water heater on the other hand.
