PR row between Ofgem and MPs

There's a bit of an argument kicking off between two groups established by the government to scrutinise Britain's energy policy.

For what seems like months the rather influential, but somewhat smart grid obsessed, Energy and Climate Change Committee have been preparing to release its report on the future of energy supply in the UK.

The MPs are a group established to hold energy ministers and power companies to account over energy policies.

And their report was released to the press on Monday (February 22) but under the strict instructions it was not published until the following day.

However, Ofgem, the government's official energy watchdog, who came in for massive criticism in the report, took the opportunity on Monday to release its own report attacking power companies and high bills.

This focused on price rise and got the national papers interested and got a small mention on some of the morning TV broadcasts.

However, when the MPs came to release their report – focusing on the smart grid and attacking ofgem – the media and already gorged itself and another power story didn't get them excited and has slipped away.

I'll be interested to what they do next.
