Out of 700 businesses, 49 percent said energy price hikes were a cause for concern. One fifth of businesses questioned said changes in government where a worry while 13 percent viewed environmental legislation as a worry.
With the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Energy Efficiency Scheme now part of legislation since the beginning of April, these findings are somewhat worrying. From April, large non-energy intensive organisations have to measure their energy use and report back their findings with a view to steadily reducing consumption over time.
Businesses need to wake up to the facts. By taking the steps necessary to reduce consumption, energy bills will tumble. The latest energy legislation has been designed to help industry lower energy bills through incentivising them to lower carbon output. Lowering bills will free up money and any change in government, along with potential new laws and taxes that may come in and the costs that they incur will be much easier to deal with if businesses act early and make reducing energy consumption a top priority.
