B&V and JVs get lion’s share of Thames work

Black & Veatch (B&V) along with three joint ventures Optimise, MGJV and GBM are the four beneficiaries of Thames Water's base load contracts to improve and maintain its ageing water pipes, sewers and other facilities over the next five years. The four contracts are worth £1.3B in total over the next five years.

Commenting on the decision to award base load deals, Thames Water chief executive Martin Baggs said: “We’ve challenged all our contractors to deliver the best possible value for our 13.6 million customers’ money. Instead of letting lots of small contracts to multiple contractors, we’re working with a select group of leading organisations to deliver the base load of our five-year investment programme.

“Our operational performance is better than ever right now – best-ever water quality, best-ever sewage works compliance and leakage down 24% in the past four years. Our new approach will help us build on these standards of excellence over the next five years.”

As part of deals:

·B&V will improve and maintain treatment plants in London and Thames Valley

·Optimise (J Murphy & Sons /Clancy Docwra/Barhale /MWH) is responsible for north London and Thames Valley water pipes and sewers

·MGJV (Morrison Utility Services/Galliford Try) is responsible for south London water pipes and sewers

·GBM (Galliford Try/Biwater/Mott MacDonald) has responsibility for north and south London water and sewage treatment works

Optimise contract director Ian Noble said: “Signing these contracts represents a huge accomplishment for the team. We now are a key part of the Thames Water team helping deliver the biggest ever AMP capital programme.”

Tony Collins, B&V managing director added: “We look forward to continuing our longstanding relationship with Thames Water for a fourth successive AMP period. We will draw on our knowledge and experience of Thames Water’s assets and sites, our relationships with our client and our supply chain partners, and our working practices to deliver the high level of quality and service expected from us by Thames Water and its customers.”
