Dennis Eagle buys Jack Allen refuse business

In a surprise move just before the Christmas break, Dennis Eagle, the specialist vehicle manufacturer which lays claim to UK market leadership in the refuse vehicle industry, announced the purchase of Jack Allen Refuse Services Ltd. The company says this acquisition would strengthen its position in the UK, increase the product range and enhance the service offered to its customers.

Under Bridgepoint Capital (formerly Nat West Equity Partners), Dennis Eagle restructured the business, appointed new management and focused on the after-sales service to complement the quality of the product and provide more consistent and predictable levels of performance. The purchase of Jack Allen will provide an opportunity to reinforce this and bring together the key strengths, in terms of product range, product quality, service response and parts supply, demonstrated in both organisations.

Dennis Eagle states that, in addition to an extended product range, customers will have access to the largest sales and service team dedicated to refuse collection products. Dennis Eagle has agreed with Jack Allen Refuse Services to joint operations from the JA sites at Aldridge and to take over the operation at Mitcham, London, for the foreseeable future. This will bring the total number of service centres in the Dennis Eagle network to nine.

Jonathan Allen, Managing Director of Jack Allen (Sales & Service) Ltd, said that, with recent changes in market conditions, it had become clear it was time for JA "to divest ourselves of refuse collection vehicle production and sales."

He said that JA had approached Dennis Eagle.

Mr Allen added: "Our future is to focus on the sales and service of specialist products introduced by us during the past decade." The company's "business emphasis will be directed towards customer service and offering alternative purchasing of environmental products and services through whole life cost solutions."
