GE TIP Tanker Services invests in Whale tankers

GE TIP Tanker Services, the specialist tanker hire division of GE Equipment Services, has taken delivery of the first batch of 20 new Medium Volume Combinations (MVC) GullyWhales and High Volume JetVacs units ordered from Whale Tankers.


The addition of these new vacuum tankers is part of GE TIP Tanker Services expansion of more diverse specialised assets within the already established hire fleet of truck mounted and semi-trailer vacuum tankers and gully emptier/jetters.

With the financial backing of GE, TIP offers these specialist vehicles on innovative leasing and contract hire solutions with a choice in the level of back up services available to customers.

The MVC Gully Whales will be of 8,020 litres capacity and will feature a stainless steel lining, fully hydraulic door and clamps with a five inch gully boom.
The vacuum system is based on a Mistral 400 series exhauster/compressor with an output of 245 cfm, whilst the jetting system can deliver 125 litres per minute at 125 bar. The main hose reel is self-aligning and hydraulically operated and incorporates a 100 metre high pressure hose, with a secondary 30 metre of high pressure hose.

The order additionally includes high volume JetVacs fitted with a high performance jetting pump and vacuum tank combination. The Whale JetVacs have a capacity of 11,585 litres. Each vehicle has been specified with a Pratissoli MS50 high pressure pump, capable of 50 gallons per minute at 2,000 psi and will also feature two hydraulically operated hose reels, with one being self-aligned.

All 20 trucks will be built on Volvo and Scania truck chassis and will operate out of four TIP locations of Avonmouth, Knottingley, Leicester and Liverpool.
GE TIP Tanker Services, Managing Director, Howard Wilkinson, comments "This is a serious new fleet expansion programme in direct response to meet the customer demand TIP have received from the municipal and civil engineering sectors".

Commenting on the order, Sales Director of Whale, Keith Van-Hagen, said: "We have regularly supplied GE with vacuum tankers in the past, but we are particularly delighted to be able to meet their diverse specification requirements in this substantial order".
He added, "All Whale Vacuum Tankers are manufactured to meet the requirements of the UK Pressure Equipment Regulations 1999. They are fully certified and plated to comply with the European Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23 EC, giving the operator the comfort that he is working in full compliance of all current legal requirements."
