Super-efficient technology set to transform energy use in the next century

Scientists and engineers at Purdue University have outlined some of the technological developments that could transform our lives and the environment in the 21st Century. These include super-efficient cars that use hybrid engines that can switch from petrol to electric drives; electronic gear that runs for days on a single charge; new industries that use sugars from paper and other wastes to make a variety of products; and artificial intelligence may help to improve the commercial power grid.
