Kitchen waste option for Dennis Eagle Duo

Dennis Eagle has teamed up with Terberg Matec to add a recycling pod for kitchen waste to its Duo vehicle

Dennis Eagle has unveils what it claims is the first recycling body of its kind to collect kitchen waste. Based on Dennis' existing Duo recycling RCV configuration, this latest model features a 4m3 top-loading pod that is located just behind the cab.

Dennis has teamed up with Terberg Matec to engineer the development. In order to maximise payloads while withstanding the corrosive properties associated with kitchen waste, the recycling pod container is made from aluminium. It is also fully sealed - which means the unit can carry pure liquids without leakage - and comes suspended in a robust steel framework.

Loading options
Loading occurs to the vehicle's nearside and kitchen waste can be discharged into the pod using either a 270-litre collection trough that sits alongside the main body compartment, or into wheeled bins that are then hoisted by the bin clamp feature fitted to the trough unit prior to top-loading.

Offloading occurs to the vehicle's offside and the pod has been designed to pivot about an offset point that serves to create both a high and wide discharge arc.

To ensure the combined RCV maximises efficiency and payload, the new Duo comes equipped with Dennis' Phoenix 2 12 general compaction bodywork. By combining the P2 12 body with the 4m3 recycling unit, the rate with which body compartments are expected to fill are anticipated to be closely aligned.

Terberg Matec has also equipped the model with its Omni-Del bin lifts together with its weighing, ID, tracking and mapping technologies. The recycling pod is fitted with an underbody weighing system to help monitor kitchen waste payloads.

"With an increasing number of local authority operators looking to separate kitchen waste into its own steam, we decided to develop a product specifically for this aspect of the recycling process," says Norman Thoday, Dennis' managing director of commercial operations.
