Pollution under the spotlight

In this month's packed special report we turn our attention to pollution problems and how they are being tackled.

Case studies range from a project to monitor traffic emissions in Bristol to the more exotic work of charting the chemical interaction between sea and air in the tropics.

The Waste & Resources Action Programme also gives an update of its work on tackling batteries and how the UK might adapt to recycling when the Batteries Directive kicks in.

The implications of Defra's shake-up of pollution prevention and control strategy are also considered and we take a look at whether pedestrians and cyclists should be wearing anti-pollution masks in our smoggy city centres.
