Housing clusters can get green grant
Groups of households that want to work together to make energy savings can now apply for a share of a Euro 5m energy efficiency grant scheme.
The Cluster Housing phase of the Government's Energy Saving Pilot Scheme is designed to highlight how taking advantage of economies of scale can allow homeowners to cut the costs of making energy saving improvements such as installing insulation or heat controls.
"One of the most sensible ways to help deal with rising energy costs is to improve the energy efficiency of our homes," Mr Ryan said.
"It has been estimated that householders can save up to Euro 500 a year by bringing their houses up to modern energy efficiency standards."
The grants are being made available through Sustainable Energy Ireland which also provides grants to help low income dwellings install energy efficiency equipment, as well as stimulating the application of energy efficient design.
