New boss for WRAP

Following the departure of Jennie Price to pastures new, the Waste & Resources Action Programme has appointed a new CEO, promoting from within.

WRAP, a Government-funded body set up to reduce waste production in the UK, has given the job to Dr Liz Goodwin.

Dr Goodwin has been holding the fort as acting CEO since Ms Price’s departure in March and was officially appointed to the post permanently last week.

Dr Goodwin joined the organisation as director of materials in 2001 and later became director of construction and manufacturing in 2006.

According to a statement issued by WRAP, she has led a number of core programmes focused on overcoming market barriers and boosting the UK’s reprocessing capacity and has been instrumental in restructuring its activities to meet the changing needs of the sectors with which it engages.

“Liz has an outstanding record of achievement and we have every confidence that she will build on the strengths and capabilities of WRAP and its team,” said WRAP chairman Viv Cocker.

“The issues of recycling and resource efficiency, and the contribution that WRAP and its partners can make to tackling climate change, are more important than ever. I know that Liz has the skills and commitment to make a substantial impact on this crucial part of the UK’s environmental agenda.”

Dr Goodwin said: “I am delighted to have been offered this opportunity to lead WRAP, building on the achievements of the last seven years. Environmental issues have never before been so high on the agenda and we need to capitalize on this awareness and interest and convert it into action that has a significant impact.

“I am keen to work with our partners in all sectors to ensure that the role of recycling and materials resource efficiency is well understood so that we can continue to make real progress.”
