Poll: Business should fight climate change
People in Northern Ireland are particularly concerned about the environment, and wish to see business acting to fight climate change.A poll conducted by WWF Northern Ireland and seen by the Belfast Telegraph found that people in Ulster are more concerned about global warming than the rest of the UK.
More than 1,000 people were questioned for the survey, which concluded: "There has been a sharp increase in the proportion of people who think that human activity is damaging the environment."
Northern Ireland natives are more likely to believe that business and industry have the potential to tackle climate change than the rest of the UK.
A round-table meeting of company executives organised by the Carbon Trust in the UK last week focused on the theme that climate change will transform the way businesses operate, the Daily Telegraph reported.
Carbon Trust chief executive Tom Delay said: "It's only business that can build a low-carbon economy, because only business has the entrepreneurship, the ingenuity, and indeed, the straight capital resources to make the investments required to make a low-carbon economy a reality.
"Carbon action is all about taking action."
