SLR Acquires Hoefler Consulting Group (HCG), a leading US Environmental Consultancy

SLR Consulting has doubled its capabilities in contingency planning for offshore exploration and production through the acquisition of a leading Alaska-based environmental firm Hoefler Consulting Group (HCG).

At a time when spill contingency is top of mind for many companies as a result of the ongoing events in the Gulf of Mexico, the announcement positions SLR as a leader in onshore and offshore permitting and compliance.

HCG was set up in 1995 by Brian Hoefler and has 55 employees with offices in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Portland and Seattle. It is a leading provider of specialist permitting and air quality consulting services to clients in the energy and mining sectors with particular strength in contingency planning for offshore drilling, pollution prevention and oil field regulation.

SLR Chief Executive David Richards said: “In line with our strategy and current client demands, this acquisition will further strengthen our offering in permitting and contingency planning for offshore drilling. This is a particularly strong growth area at present given recent events in the Gulf of Mexico and we are already working with a number of major companies to review their spill contingency plans.”

The announcement also represents a further milestone in SLR’s strategy of augmenting organic growth through selective acquisition to strengthen and extend its technical and geographic coverage. It follows the acquisition of Heggies, a 140 person environmental consultancy in Australia, completed earlier this year.

The company now has almost 900 employees working from 21 offices in the UK and Ireland, 25 in the US and Canada and 10 in Australasia.
