The new office is at 24 Ballynahinch Street, Hillsborough, Co. Down, BT26 6AW, with principal Richard McAree appointed office manager.

With over 14 years experience as a waste manager and environmental consultant Richard, who will work within SLR’s waste strategy and procurement group, was previously a regional director for White Young Green.

His particular areas of expertise include integrated waste management, waste management procurement and strategy development, waste minimization and recycling, waste handling and treatment technology as well as the planning and permitting of solid waste infrastructure.

Richard, who is a member of the Chartered Institute of Waste Management and a Chartered Environmentalist, said: “SLR is a dynamic, responsive and fast growing environmental consultancy with an expanding network of offices in Europe, North America and Canada and I am really looking forward to the challenge of building up SLR’s multi-disciplinary profile in Ireland.”

In SLR’s Dublin office, Conor Walsh has joined as a technical director.

With over 20 years experience in the waste industry, he has previously worked for KT Cullen, White Young Green and more recently as environment director at Thornton’s Recycling and as a technical advisor to MCR Environmental.

A trained geologist and a member of the Chartered Institute of Wastes Management, he has served as board member of the Composting Association of Ireland (Cré) and as a director of the Irish Waste Management Association.

SLR director Ian Roberts said: “We are delighted to announce that SLR has secured the services of two of Ireland’s most respected waste specialists.

“Richard and Conor’s understanding of the specific issues in the waste sector and their relationships with both public and private organisations will enable SLR to further develop our waste business across the island of Ireland.”
