Vodafone, Telefonica announce environmental partnership

A wide-ranging scheme which will benefit Ireland's environment has been announced by Telefonica and Vodafone.

The two companies will share mobile network assets and consolidate existing sites, as well as jointly building new facilities.

Additionally, the scheme is expected to provide significant benefits to businesses in the process.

Countries set to benefit from the programme include Ireland, Spain, Germany and the UK.

Matthew Key, CEO of Telefonica Europe, said: "Telefonica and Vodafone will continue to compete strongly against each other in local markets, while giving our customers enhanced mobile coverage in more places, using fewer mast sites."

CEO of Vodafone Europe Michel Combes added the move will deliver on the company's promise to reduce the environmental impact of its network rollout.

Vodafone uses its influence to encourage its partners to reduce their environmental impact, as well as lowering its own in areas it has direct control over.
