Water conservation in Kilkenny praised

Efforts to conserve water in Kilkenny will offer a "real advantage" for house building in the county, it has been claimed.

Speaking to the Kilkenny Advertiser, director of service at Kilkenny County Council explained that training for the new Water Conservation Project is underway.

He told the newspaper: "By reducing the loss of water we are maximising the effectiveness of the capital works that are taking place to our water systems around the county.

"We are reducing leaks and increasing water and that is the philosophy of this programme."

The council recently announced plans to construct a new water treatment plant and pumping station in Mullinabro, Kilkenny.

Two new reservoirs will also be constructed at Ballinvoher.

Submissions concerning the new construction can be presented up until March 27th 2009.

Meanwhile, in October last year, the council announced plans to upgrade the existing wastewater treatment plant at the Sludge Management Hub Centre in Purcellsinch.
