British firms lead Europe in $200m GE Ecomagination Challenge
British entrepreneurs are leading the way in a battle for a $200million fund for environmental ideas.
GE's plans to find new environmental entrepreneurs to invest in has seen 28 UK entries so far.
This makes the UK the leader in Europe, and in fifth place overall, behind Canada (31) , Kenya (34), India (58) and the leader by a long way the United States (681).

GE UK's chief executive, Mark Elborne, said: "The GE Ecomagination Challenge is all about unlocking the potential for low carbon innovation and applying GE's commercial expertise to transform great ideas into commercial solutions.
"It is pleasing to see the interest so far generated from the UK and I would encourage the country's brightest innovators who have not already submitted their ideas to do so without delay and demonstrate the UK's position as a hub for low carbon innovation."
The deadline for entering the competition is September 30. In late October GE will announce which projects it intends to pursue commercial relationships with.
