DCDA helps 5,000+ customers cut bills and emissions

Last updated: 23rd September 2021

SSE Energy Solutions is helping thousands of businesses in Britain to cut their energy bills and carbon emissions by helping them to understand their energy usage.

SSE Energy Solutions’ new data collection/data aggregation (DCDA) service is providing customers with access to energy usage data at 30-minute intervals, allowing for real-time decision making.

Over 5,000 SSE Energy Solutions’ customers are already making use of the product after the company won a competitive tender, benchmarked against industry competitors, to provide DCDA services.

DCDA charges, sometimes referred to as settlement charges, form part of all half-hourly electricity supply bills. The costs of these charges vary from supplier to supplier. Many organisations are unaware that it is possible to choose their own DCDA, rather than settling for a provider appointed by an energy supplier. By choosing their own DCDA, organisations can make significant savings on their current contract.

According to Eunice Mabey, Energy Optimisation Director at SSE Enterprise Energy Solutions:  “Even if a firm doesn’t buy their energy from SSE, our service can still help them save money as their DCDA supplier. As a data collector and aggregator, we retrieve and validate data from an organisation’s meter before forwarding it to their energy supplier. As well as contributing to accurate billing, data collection and aggregation is key to building an effective energy management strategy. Our half-hourly data analysis allows companies to get a much deeper understanding of their energy usage, enabling them to identify areas in which they can reduce both costs and carbon emissions.”

SSE Energy Solutions believes that getting more businesses to migrate to half-hourly metering, combined with the deployment of a Smart Meter, is key to helping businesses to cut their carbon emissions and in turn helping the UK to meet its net zero carbon emissions target.

“This new data collection and aggregation DCDA service will help thousands more businesses on the road to net zero. From speaking with our customers, we know that the more data a business has at its fingertips, the better it is able to make key decisions. At SSE, we have more than 20 years of DCDA settlement experience, with our bespoke reports helping to drive accuracy and transparency in businesses of all sizes and in all sectors,” continues Eunice Mabey.

SSE DCDA is one of an ever-expanding number of products being rolled out by SSE to support businesses on their net zero journey.

“At SSE, we are taking a ‘whole system’ approach to create a suite of low carbon solutions that are relevant, simple to understand and easy to access for all businesses. We continue to grow and enhance our products and services to meet the demands of modern business. The changes and additions we are making to our product offering are all in response to the feedback we’re getting from customers about the help they need to become more sustainable. We want to be their partner of choice on the road to net zero and encourage any business that’s looking to take action to contact us,” says Eunice Mabey.
