In response, the City of London Corporation has extended the application deadline for entries to its prestigious Sustainable City Awards to November 15.

The deadline was originally set for the November 1 but now organisations have an extra week to ensure their efforts in sustainability are recognised at the annual awards ceremony at Mansion House in February next year.

With last year’s winners including a seasonal restaurant, an energy efficient zoo and a global real estate consultancy, an array of organisations are being called upon to compete for a coveted ‘Green Gong’.

Head of Sustainability at the City of London Corporation, Simon Mills, said: “The recent cuts have brought the importance of organisations’ contribution to sustainable development to the forefront of the business agenda and it is now imperative that they are identified as leaders in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

“We have extended the deadline so even more organisations can reap the benefits of winning a Sustainable City Award and we can applaud the excellent initiatives that are being embraced.”
