At London’s Energy Solutions Expo this week Kate Dunk of the Energy Institute spoke about the importance of recruiting bright young minds to the sector, and how efforts to do just that were panning out.

She conceded that the sector was top of few teenage wish lists, but argued that this could change and that energy can provide a fulfilling, and worthwhile, career.

“If you’re talking about promoting careers in energy you’ve really got your work cut out,” she said.

She spoke of keeping teachers up to date about the options for their pupils, as if enthused they could act as a perfect conduit for information.

Ms Dunk also urged energy professionals to take any offered opportunities to get involved in career fairs or presentations at schools.

She called on existing energy professionals to get in touch with the institute to tell their stories about how their career paths took them to where they are today, as part of a broad initiative to chart how and why people become involved with the industry.

Ms Dunk’s presentation can be seen in full in the video below.
