Integrating remedial design for contaminated land

Getting contamination experts away from a legacy of 'one size fits all' remediation schemes, was explained at BEX.

BEX, part of sustainabilitylive, heard from Dr Jeremy Birnstingl the managing director of Regenesis about the difficulties of integrating different contamination techniques.

He explained that remediation projects often used one technology, but rarely a combination of technologies - unless the first one fails.

Mr Birnstingl went to say this habit is slowly beginning to give way to intelligent, deliberate use of technology combinations, but there was still a way to go.

He said: "Is this just an engineer's playground? Well I think the answer to that would be yes.

"Combining the strengths to overcome the weakness will overcome the weak points of one strategy with the strong points of another."
