MBE for local water watchdog

Commander Peter Watts, a long-standing member of local water watchdog, WaterVoice Southern, has been honoured in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

He received an MBE for Services to Water Customers.

Chairmand of WaterVoice Southern, Richard Sturt, said: “This is a truly well deserved honour. Peter has worked tirelessly on behalf of water and sewerage customers in the Southern region.”

Commander Watts was particularly active in championing the rights of customers suffering from sewer flooding. A positive result from the last price review means has seen some of his work pay off. Southern Water will now be spending nearly £100 million in the next five years on sewer flooding problems.

“I am delighted to receive the award and I pay tribute to all the committee members of WaterVoice Southern who voluntarily contribute their time and expertise to ensure customers are well represented,” Commander Watts said.

“Having obtained the money to tackle sewer flooding at the last price review, we must continue to work closely with Southern water to ensure that it is spent in the most cost effective way to benefit those hardest hit by sewer flooding.”
