CIWEM appoints new president

The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) has appointed former Environment Director at Ramboll UK, Paul Hillman, as its president.

Hillman, who is replacing David Wilkes in the role, was previously a public health engineer and a scientist working across the environmental agenda.

The new president has worked alongside the World Health Organisation in the Middle East to develop research and training on community water supplies, sanitation and environmental management.

Hillman specialises in preventative medical sciences, and sees the provision of water and sanitation as a crucial tool. However, he also believes that the broader theme of environmental health and a more sustainable approach to future development have important parts to play.

During his term in office, Hillman aims to explore the links between education, research and processes the organisation can use to strive towards sustainable development.

On becoming President Hillman said: “It’s a great privilege to be entrusted with the Presidency of CIWEM.

“I will build on the good work of my predecessors and do all that I can to promote the unique and valuable work the Institution is doing across the breadth of water and environmental disciplines and to represent the interests of its membership”.
