Nick has worked in the water industry for 25 years in posts including deputy chief executive at the Consumer Council for Water and Water UK.

He acted as Water UK's lead adviser on Northern Ireland and Scotland water policy and managed its strategic and annual business planning.

He facilitated the first industry-wide corporate social responsibility report and led the industry's investor engagement and research strategy through to the 2004 price determination.

He also managed the water industry's UK and EU public health policy work and national stakeholder alliance.

His first task at the Institute of Water will be to lead the organisation's conference in Swansea next month.

The conference, 'For the Health of the Nation: securing, maintaining and communicating the vital water services that power our communities', will consider key strategic, engineering and human resource challenges in the industry.

Nick Ellins said: "The Institute of Water is the professional body of choice for many people in the UK water industry, providing a supportive environment for them to build their careers, meet the very best people in the sector and hear the latest industry thinking.

"We are now doing more than ever to train, mentor and nurture water and wastewater professionals so that they can better understand the vital role that the water sector fulfils each day and perform at the highest level in their jobs". Alison Brown
