Water back on corporate agenda

Water is very much back on the corporate sustainability agenda, according to the latest edie.net/Sustainable Business webinar

A record audience logged on to explore the ‘forgotten impact’ of water, an issue that has slipped off the corporate radar in recent years in favour of carbon, energy and waste.

But a unique viewer poll highlighted that 79% of businesses see water as either a ‘top priority’ or ‘a priority in the near future’. Just 12% see it merely as an operational issue, rather than of strategic importance to their business.

The webinar heard from leading academic, Tim Hess from Cranfield University and Alan Hayes, senior sustainability analyst at IGD. And Sophie Flak, VP of sustainable development at Accor Hotels, offered an insight into the efforts being made in the global hotel chain to reduce its water use – the majority of which sits within the supply chain associated with the food and drink it serves in its restaurants.
