Russia is to start work on the world s first floating nuclear plant next year, after a contract to build the 144-metre-long structure was signed. Environmentalists fear that the plant, designed to power remote Arctic regions, poses a safety risk. Russian atomic power agency chief Sergei Kiriyenko has assured that this will be no floating Chernobyl.
