RSSDulux reaches zero landfill target ahead of schedule

The business, which had set a target to achieve zero waste to landfill by the end of 2015, put its premature success down to its recycling and waste management partners DS Smith Recycling.
Speaking to edie, Dulux Decorator Centre's maintenance manager, responsible for the project, Mike Dwyer said the company was already recycling more than 200 tonnes of plastic and cardboard a year. The centre was also already converting contaminated tinter bottles and paint tins into fuel.
However it was with the help of DS Smith Recycling that the company is now able to divert its remaining waste of almost 150 tonnes, mostly food and drink packaging generated by store staff, from landfill to energy or fuel recapture.
Dulux Decorator Centre's marketing and communications manager, Beverley Whitehead said: "Like every retailer we're dedicated to reducing our environmental impact. DS Smith Recycling's commitment to sustainable waste management solutions meant we had confidence that it would be able to help us deliver on our zero waste to landfill objective as quickly as possible."
DS Smith Recycling's CSR account manager, James Williams added: "Our focus was to still ensure that the waste was treated as high up the waste hierarchy as possible to recover value from the material, whether that was for recycling or energy production."
