FCC and DS Smith team up for trade waste partnership
Two leading waste contractors have joined forces to offer businesses a more streamlined collection service for trade waste.

DS Smith Recycling has struck a deal with FCC Environment to collect and treat residual waste from 150 businesses of all sizes across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

Under the agreement, 2,000 tonnes of material a year will be processed at FCC Environment's energy-from-waste (EfW) facility at Eastcroft in Nottingham, in addition to current services provided by DS Smith Recycling.

FCC Environment's C&I director Paul Burnell said winning the contract from DS Smith Recycling was part of a wider strategy for the company, which is looking to tap into the commercial waste market more and strengthen its renewable energy offering.

"It shows the progress we've already made in developing appropriate collection and treatment capabilities," he said, adding that FCC Environment has "an ambitious programme" of securing waste streams through the development and expansion of a commercial and industrial collection service.

The residual waste collection service will be introduced to business customers across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, before being rolled out across the south east and East Anglia later in the year.
