Over the past year, the company has been working with the Carbon Trust to establish a carbon management plan which aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 15% across all of its 10 UK sites by 2014-15.

The group’s environment officer Audrey Duckworth is leading the project which involves a number of initiatives such as exploring the feasibility of installing biomass boilers to power treatment facilities, switching to automatic outdoor lighting, improving existing energy management structures and raising staff awareness of carbon impacts.

“The plan was developed with a lot of hard work and effort so we could produce the best framework for our company. That being said, the plan is only the first step – delivering the projects to help us achieve our target is of most importance,” said Duckworth.

Michael Tracey, the group’s managing director, added that the plan had enabled the company to put formal measures in place to reduce its impact upon the environment.

He said: “Good environmental performance makes good business sense and I welcome the opportunity to bring in a plan which is likely to realise efficiency savings for the company.”
