Resources from Waste – a partnership between Shanks, Costain and John Laing Investments – and Urbaser/Balfour Beatty have been invited to submit final tenders for Essex County Council and Southend-on-Sea Borough Council.

The two councils have been allocated £100 million of PFI credits to jointly procure a service to improve the way waste is treated in Essex, including the development of new facilities.

Essex County Council’s cabinet member for waste & recycling, Kevin Bentley, said: “The Essex Waste Partnership is working hard to ensure that we deliver an improved, sustainable and cost-effective waste management solution for our residents.

“With the high quality proposals that are now being offered to the Partnership we are confident that the next stage of the process will achieve this.”

The preferred bidder should be announced early in 2012, and awarded the contract by spring 2012.
