The building, located at Swalesmoor, is being built by Envirowaste and is due to be completed in mid-2012. Once operational, it will handle in excess of 75,000 tonnes of waste each year.

Envirowaste is part of the Leo Group, and its managing director Danny Sawrij said: “Each year, we are able to recycle 80% of the waste that comes to us. The new waste transfer station will allow us to not only handle more waste, but recycle even more.”

He added that Envirowaste is committed to creating a reusable product from the waste received. “Each year we produce in excess of 20,000 tonnes of woodchip and sawdust, which is used in panel boarding, fuel for power generation and also animal bedding.”
